Some Tips and Tricks for Netflix Users [2021]

Since the beginning of last year, the number of Netflix users in Bangladesh has increased a lot in a year compared to the previous year due to Kovid 19 and all educational institutions being closed. Most internet users now spend their leisure time watching various movies and TV series.

So many people who didn't use Netflix before but have been using it for months, don't know much about Netflix tips and tricks. So today I am going to discuss some of the tips and tricks for Netflix users that Netflix users need to know. However, these tricks are only for those who watch   Netflix on a laptop or desktop.

Adding IMDB rating

You may have noticed that Netflix does not show any IMDB ratings of movies and series on any movie or TV series listing page. These two info only show what percentage of the series matches your interest and what percentage of the audience likes that content. But to be honest, these two info are never enough when choosing a movie or series. In addition to these info, it is easy for us to decide whether to watch a movie or a series by looking at the IMDB and Rotten-Tomatoes ratings of that content at the same time.

If you see a low IMDB rating, many users will ignore a lot of content, which is why Netflix may not show the IMDB rating of these content on their listing page. However, what many don't know is that you can add IMDB and Rotten-Tomatoes ratings to each content on Netflix's listing page with a third-party browser extension whenever you want while browsing Netflix on the desktop.

Some Tips and Tricks for Netflix

After installing the Chrome extension from the link below, whenever you see the listing or name of a movie or series on Netflix, you will also see the IMDB rating of that movie or series reduced. This will make it a little easier to decide whether you should watch a movie or a series next time. If you wanted, you could go to the IMDB website and search for the name of the movie manually, but seeing the ratings inside the Netflix interface is more convenient.

High quality streaming

Most of the users who watch Netflix content on desktop watch Netflix in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers. Again, many use Netflix's official Windows app. You can find the official app of Netflix by searching in Windows 10 Store. But what many people don't know is that no matter how good your internet speed is, when you watch Netflix content in Google Chrome or Firefox, you will never be able to stream above 720p resolution. This is the limitation of Google Chrome and Firefox in terms of Netflix streaming.

If your internet speed is 20 Mbps + and you want to stream Netflix content above 720p, then you need to use Microsoft Edge browser. The only Microsoft Edge browser allows you to stream Netflix content at a maximum 4K resolution. So it's a good idea to use Microsoft Edge when viewing Netflix content on the desktop. And if you are sure that your internet speed is not capable of streaming above 720p resolution, then you can use any browser.

Netflix party

Have you ever wished you could enjoy your favorite movie or series at the same time with a friend? Yes, your friend can sit with you and watch on the same screen if he wants. But you may not know that if you want, you can remotely watch any Netflix content at the same time with your friend. However, in this case, you and your friend, both need to have separate Netflix subscriptions. If so, you can easily do so with the Netflix Party browser extension. All you have to do is play the content of your choice and then open the Netflix Party extension and copy the unique link generated there. Then you have to send this link to the person with whom you want to enjoy the content.

Some Tips and Tricks for Netflix

As soon as you visit this link, the same content will start playing on his screen. However, in this case, the Netflix Party extension must be installed in his browser. Now when you pause, the content will pause automatically on your friend's screen. If your friend pauses / plays again, your screen will also pause / play. Thus the watching progress of the two will always be synced. In addition, if you want, you can chat using the keyboard in a sidebar. And not just two friends, you can host a party like this and enjoy a movie or series with many people.

Be aware of keyboard shortcuts

Those who are accustomed to watching Netflix on the desktop must know some essential keyboard shortcuts. Because, many times after playing any content on the desktop and leaning on the chair, only the keyboard is at hand. Repeatedly navigating the UI with the mouse becomes quite a hassle. I myself always see Netflix content on the desktop. So you always have to face this problem. So keyboard shortcuts can come in handy in such a situation. For those of you who are accustomed to viewing Netflix content on a desktop like mine, here are some handy keyboard shortcuts:

- Pressing F and F11 will turn on fullscreen mode and pressing Esc will turn off fullscreen mode again.

- PgDn will pause the ongoing content and click PgUp will play. Again, you can do this by simply pressing the spacebar.

- Pressing Shift + Right Arrow will forward 10 seconds, and pressing Shift + Left Arrow will rewind for 10 seconds. However, it now only works with the Left and Right Arrow keys without Shift.

- Pressing M will mute the volume. However, most of the time it depends on your device. Moreover, by pressing Up Arrow and Down Arrow, you can also control the volume at 4 levels.

Subtitle customization

If you're like me and most Netflix users, you don't have the peace of mind to watch a movie or a series without subtitles even if you know English. Because all content has proper and perfectly synced subtitles, many users use Netflix for money only for this reason. However, many may not know that if you watch Netflix on the desktop, you can customize the Netflix subtitles as you wish.

Some Tips and Tricks for Netflix

To change subtitles, you must first login to your Netflix account or your profile. None of us purchase and use the entire account ourselves. So make sure you're logged in to your profile, not just your Netflix account. Now you go to profile settings by clicking on Your Account> Your Profile option from the top right side of the screen. Now you will see an option called Subtitle Appearance here. Here you can customize the subtitles of your profile.
